The background image
Robert Smithson, Spiral Jetty, 1970
Materials→ Mule, Salt, Crystals, Ground, Water
Location→ Great Salt lake, Utah
This installation was created in the frame of the landscape art aiming to the preserve of the artwork in the region, avoiding to require permanence. The artist would like to corrode the stable shapes of the aesthetic experience, focusing his thought on the Universi instead of the Art. Smithson wanted to give a geographic dimension into the interaction between the art and the life. The masterpiece gone in 1973, when the waters of the lake covered it.
