The idea
How many problems in such a short period of time?
Covid-19 that is responsible for the desertification of the cities, the closing of people in their homes and the economic disaster that is nearest than we think. Human and mother nature, a unique relationship during the times. The nature though has suffered from the reckless human actions for over a century. Now it's the time for nature to take revenge for all the suffering. As we are students at the post graduation program of University of Piraeus with the title Digital Culture and as we come from the fields of History and History of Art, we thought that the problems that plague humanity should be highlighted in some way. The occasion for the realisation of this purpose was our semester project for the lesson named ' Signal processing- Audiovisual techniques- Services for cultural Applications'. The content of our semester project was the curation of an exhibition. A digital exhibition may not be a necessity and, for sure, it can't replace the experiential approach to art, but this project gave us the opportunity to be creative. Because of the curfew our original idea changed a little bit, but that worked out well for us! Without experience, but with a lot of will, patience, the camera of our mobile phones, a lot of knowledge and love about history of art and, for sure, internet connection we started implementing our project.
The photographic project aims to show the 'new' center of Athens. A city that we haven't met nor at the summer periods when everyone has left on vacation. A totally new landscape created by the spread of the pandemic of Covid-19.On that new landscape prevail, empty roads, closed schools and kidding gardens, the strict and frequent presence of police in central, and not only, parts of Athens and of course the desolation of the once crowded parts and roads of our city.
The art project is related to a timeless issue, but in a different approach. Water, Wind, fire and earth, the four elements of nature. Mother nature suffers because of the reckless human actions, for over a century. We therefore aim to present works of art related to the four elements of nature from antiquity till our days. So that we can make it easier for the viewer to meet nature through art.
